Don't all good things start with a simple idea? Summer of last year (2014) I had been riding my motorcycle around, my Dad (Andy... a potential contributor here) had just fell in love with the sound and feel of Harley Davidson motorcycles, and I was thinking of a scheme.
Wouldn't it be great to do an "epic" ride... one for the ages. Not much different than many have done before, but unique to me, and a potential once in a lifetime journey. My Dad and I had talked one time about going to Wing Ding, a rally specific for Honda Goldwings, but we never really made it.
So, where do you go if you're a Harley person (or any red blooded American motorcyclist) to experience the ultimate in a motorcycle destination? Only one word came to mind: Sturgis.
I looked online, and the 2014 Sturgis rally was already underway, but saw that the 2015 rally was going to be one of the biggest ever. 2015 would mark the 75th anniversary of the Sturgis rally. I knew I had to go.
I called my Dad and pitched the idea of riding to the 2015 Sturgis Rally to him, and he was on board as well, and then he came up with the idea of my brother, Steve, coming along. What a great idea, the three of us together on the open road! Problem was, Steve had never really done much riding.
Fortunately, Steve didn't need much convincing, and he quickly went to a basic rider course, and purchased a new Harley for the trip. With a year to get ready, what could possibly go wrong?
Well, two motorcycle accidents (my Dad, and Steve... nothing too serious... I'll let them tell their stories) later, and a blown engine on my own Harley, we are just about at the line of departure for this excursion.
I'm riding from New York, Steve is riding from California. We are meeting my Dad in Texas, and heading into Sturgis from there.
I ride a 2014 Heritage Softail, my Dad rides a 2004 FatBoy, and Steve rides a 2014 FatBob. This should be a pretty epic journey.
I'm headed to the Great Smokey Mountains and then to Alabama on my way to Texas. While I'm not leaving for about two weeks yet, I want to intro this blog, and let everyone know what's going on for preparation and then allow y'all to take the journey with me. While on the road I plan to blog at least once a day in addition to any photos or videos I capture along the way.
It's my intent that this serve more as a chronicle of the next few weeks leading up to the trip, and once we are all together, it can then serve as an online way to show our family, friends, and anyone else that might care, what this trip is like. There will be photos, videos, and (hopefully) decent writing to capture the journey... our thoughts... our conversations... and our many interactions on the road.
So please, follow this blog, give feedback if you feel like it, and hope you enjoy the ride!

This is a great start Jeff. I think this blog will be an important part of this adventure.
